He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. (Psalm 1:3)
We are planted by the side of the waters of life. We are given the charge to grow and not to die. In Psalms this is the invitation to all who believe in God, that first believe that we are planted in the best and the right place. No matter what that place looks like in our mind it still is flowing with lifegiving water. So, grow to the fullness is the invitation.
Prosperity is the inheritance of the one who grows in the shade of the almighty. But then this prosperity we are talking about is true wealth that nourishes us beyond the confines of the human body and mind. It is that which nourshies the soul and the integral human experience. If we are limited to the bodies we came with, then life is very poor and limited. Surely here it is more than simply the wealth of the world that dies anyway. Surely it is about more than the wealth that will dry up in the midst of a calamity, crisis, fear or anything else for that matter. We can find that a lot around us. It is nothing new. This lack of prosperity, famine, death, sadness, economic crisis and you name it, they were all part of human life when this Psalm was written. So the prosperity of God is greater than the wealth of human making.
May that be the properity that you seek this day. May the water’s of life give you life that you may grow into a huge tree under the shadow of the Lord and allow the birds in the air to rest on you and the those who come under the shade of your love find peace. God’s grace is upon the one who is willing grow in the power of the almighty.
